Many factors led Americans to move and expand to the west among them the increase of
population and need for more land which was cheap to acquire. The Americans also had the feel
of manifest destiny which prompted them to feel as if they have a god given right to fill the
whole country and beyond. The government policies by then encouraged the people to move
towards the west. Americans were greatly fascinated with opportunities that the west was
bringing like mining opportunities of silver and the gold rush (AskHon, 2000). The expanding
railway was also creating an easier passage towards the west.
