Research ethics examines the ethical soundness of specific research activities, ensures that
research meets individual interests and protects human participants. There are four fundamental
categories of quantitative research designs which are experimental, descriptive, quasi-experimental
and correlational. This study expounds on the use of descriptive research to investigate the hand
washing behavior of patrons in restrooms within a university.
Role and Importance of Descriptive Research in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
The descriptive analysis describes, explains or validates the nature of an event through the
definition of respondent characteristics, measurement of data trends, comparisons and validation of
existing conditions. This technique gives industrial/organizational professionals a better and broad
understanding of an event. The knowledge of the phenomenon forms the basis for decision-making
to improve the prevailing standards.
