Toys “R” Us is an American company, that specializes in juvenile and toy products.
Founded in 1957, by Charles Lazarus, Toys “R” Us has been in operation for 65 years, before its
global operations declined. The company boasted an estimated 800 stores in the United States
and 800 more across the world. However, following the company’s filing for bankruptcy in
2017, its total number of stores has substantially declined following the closure of all its U.S.
stores. Before the demise of the company, it had been categorized as an example of a category
killer. However, its glory was short-lived following the rise of online merchants such as
Amazon.com that took a significant portion of the toy market.
Current Performance
The current performance of Toys “R” Us is worrying since the company has failed to
recover from a stream of poor performance over the last decade. Before the closure of all its U.S
stores, the company had been put under voluntary administration that did not work. Its British
