Student replies Lori Thomas Good evening class, I'm excited as we are already in week 3 and have spent a little time this weekend working on my ePortfolio. How are you all coming along? Even though I haven't figured out everything to display yet; we were able to get a head start with our week 2 assignment. This assisted in making some decisions on the initial four artifacts. The way that I went about deciding on my first four artifacts was to go through all my classes, look at all my assignments, papers, PowerPoints and write them all down. I then thought about branding and what makes me unique and how I want to represent myself both academically and professionally. I chose the following for my first four, I would love your feedback and If I can assist anyone else, please let me know. The first artifact that highlighted will be my professional resume from MGMT315 - Management Communications. I will update my resume with current qualifications, experience, skills, and education to upload to my ePortfolio. I chose my resume to meet the objectives and desired outcomes of this class and to showcase one of the many services that I provide at Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) for transitioning active duty servicemembers, veterans and their family members. The second artifact is an essay written in HRMT413 - Employment and Labor Relations dealing with the employment experiences of those active duty members transitioning to the civilian workforce and the challenges they face in doing so. This was valuable in exploring the current state of employment relations, the source of workplace conflict, alienation and other issues from a variety of perspectives. The third selected artifact is a literature paper written for LITR221 concerning PTSD and the demons faced in war. PTSD is a demon that invades the veteran first and then the family. This is something that I am passionate about and deal with daily in the services provided to veterans and family members at Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC). The fourth artifact was a little challenging on which to select, I chose a SWOT Analysis written for MGMT410 - Strategic Management on a new business venture that I would open if I ever decided to start a new business. This was essential in focusing on concepts and approaches that shape organizational strategic decision making by examining competitive strategies and analyze competitive advantages of internal and external factors and influences. Tell me what you think and good luck Angelette The first set of artifacts that I selected were picked because they touch on a variety of objectives for both the management degree required courses and the concentration in leadership courses. I wanted to specifically showcase certain aspects of leadership first in my portfolio, since this is an area that I have had extensive experience in. Each of the assignments I selected are a reflection of some of my experiences over the year and show my understanding of the subject matter. These assignments show that I have had a variety of experiences and have the ability to apply the knowledge obtained in different circumstances. Through these assignments I was able to show my clear understanding of the material, what it means to be a leader, motivation, development of myself and others, dispute resolution and communication. These assignments were not just a representation of my academic achievements but also my experiences as a leader over the last 20 years. The artifacts selected encompass different aspects from the following objectives for the management degree courses and those required for a concentration in leadership. • • • • • Use of measurement tools to determine levels of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and personality. Demonstrates techniques that will lead others to greater personal self-awareness through general counseling and active listening. Develop strategies on creating change in the workplace, including how to build teams and lead staff during critical times. Evaluate the principles of leader development in organizations and the tools that allow development and growth to occur. Develop strategies for organizational challenges using management theories, principles, and practices.
