The Role of Artwork (poetry and plays) in Humanity
Introduction
Art is something which has been there in our community for a long time. Over different
eras, great artists have existed to inform, educate, and shape the thinking of the community.
William Shakespeare is a great historical figure and is known for his great work in the 15th and
16th centuries. He was an actor, play writer, as well as a poet. Shakespeare’s works play a great
role in humanity for both the men and women (Shakespeare & Bullen, 2015). He is a motivating
historical figure. His work continues to inspire modern poets and is used in most literature
classes to reflect the happenings in our communities. We learn a lot by learning about the
circumstances which we are likely to face as human beings. How has poetry changed over the
years? It is vital to compare Shakespeare’s works with the present great poets like Sarah Kay to
bring out the changes which have taken place over time and the way they impact humanity.
Shakespeare’s and Kay’s poetry
Many have borrowed from his works. Most of Shakespeare’s poems are translated into
several major languages in the world and what is interesting is that his plays are practiced than
those of any other writer. This is evidence that William’s artistic career achieved its objectives.
Sarah Kay is an American poet who majorly deals with spoken word poetry. Kay has been on the
forefront in the field of poetry and in the year 2004, initiated the VOICE group which majorly
dedicated itself to spoken word poetry in teaching (Kay & Janowitz, 2018).
