The concepts of health promotion and health education according to World Health Organization, 2018 are as follow. Health promotion is “the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health. Health education is “any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes”. Nurses plays important roles in both of them. Health education is performed in different ways and give people with the tools needed to improve their health. Health education uses the nursing process (assessment, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate) to provide the proper education. During the assessment process, specific needs are identified and appropriate tools and resources to be utilized are selected. Various factors needs to be taken into consideration, such as level of literacy, health literacy, language needs, SDOH and, cultural differences. Some of the tools that can be used includes pamphlets, classes, videos, and question and answer sessions. One issue that a family may experience today is Intimate partner violence (IPV). In this example during the assessment, nurses should be aware of different physical and not physical signs. Physical signs can include bruising in the chest and abdomen, multiple injuries, and patterns of repeated injury; not physical signs can include anxiety, stress, drug abuse, and suicide attempts. If violence is suspected, sensitive questions to obtain more information needs to be asked. Information about signs/symptoms of abuse and appropriate services to be contacted needs to be provided. Education in resources available for restoration of health, learning positive relationship skills and how to avoid IPV in the future is another important step regarding to this family issue.
