Many of the problems we face are too big to be resolved by government alone and global businesses will inevitably be affected. So business should engage with government to be, as the European Trade Union Confederation’s John Monks used to say, part of the solution and not part of the problem.
Businesses are stakeholders too. They have a voice and should make it heard. Responsible businesses can serve their shareholders well by putting their case to government. Keeping your head down and hoping that politics might go away is unwise. Engage constructively, openly and straightforwardly. There is no need to be apologetic about it. Instead of merely talking about leadership, here is an opportunity to show it.
