Bellevue Hospital is the oldest hospital located at First Avenue in New York City. It was
founded in March 1736 and formed its first intensive care unit in 1962. It was well known for
treating visiting presidents, diplomats, and many respected personnel. The hospital has received
so many awards and honors such as the high-level facility for trauma treatments, best facility for
diabetic analysis, psychiatric and emergency treatments among many more awards.

The administrative organization of related hospitals and Bellevue were formed under the
president John W Brannan in 1902. A year later, Bellevue formed chest Service after a break out
of tuberculosis infection (Schluger et al (1995). Later on it established its first cardiac ambulance
services back in 1911. The hospital can be traced back by its rapid development figuring out the
facilities they founded amongst them, psychiatric schools for mentally disturbed children, and also
the best cardiac hospital in 1981 (Bender et al, 1941).

Overall climate of Bellevue Hospital

The climate of a facility refers to the beliefs, values, missions that guide how an
organization should behave. Bellevue hospital was structured to treat patients as the main goal
(Mick et al, 2005). Its organizational climate is to ensure that patients are taken care of, healed,
and diseases are prevented to avoid sickness. Everyone working in Bellevue from the nurses and
managers has to ensure that the core values of each patient are respected, confidentially and
integrity should not be an option. Everyone working at Bellevue should always be accountable and
work professionally to fulfilling the hospital goal which is healing.

Organizational Structure of Bellevue Hospital

Any organization must have a chain structure it helps in ensuring workers and colleagues
work towards one goal of the organization. The facility has over 4,000 members who ensure that
the patient’s stay is safe and smooth. The medical staff includes attending physician staff who are
responsible for the surgical operations, house staffs which include the interns and medical students
under the strict supervision of the attending physician and lastly, middle-level house staffs which
includes the nurses, midwives etc. Secondly, the Nursing staff which entails Head nurse, registered
nurses and licensed nurses.

The third category is the patient Aid technicians also known as the nurse aids who ensure
that patients movement within and outside the hospital is well taken care of. Caregivers also play
a big role in the facility as they help facilitates feedback for, the patients and this creates a vacuum
for change and development of any facility.

Goals of the hospital
Being the oldest public hospital in the United States, the hospital’s formal goal is wishing
the patients a speedy recovery by offering the best medical services to all. Its informal goals are to
ensure that patients are able to speak up, pay attention, know about their diagnosis and ask
questions for a better quality of services.

Importance of understanding the climate of the organization

Any organization must have detailed organizational structure so as to create the conducive
environment on what is expected of them, the managers are mostly responsible in ensuring they

apply their managerial skills such as planning. Directing, leading and organizing. He ensures that
well-stipulated goals mission and vision of the company are written in white and black. There are
cases where nurses do not follow the organizational goals and mission and end up hurting the
patients and this can lead to the bad reputation of the hospital. Bellevue’s goal is to offer quality
services close to home. This creates a conducive environment of all nurses’ leaders and managers
at the facility to ensure that patients are well taken care of, given the right medication and treated
just right.
