An article on “Being an American”
When I was younger, I always felt that being an American was all about being born in the
country and having the American citizenship. I also thought it was about living and working in
different parts of this great nation. As I have grown up and realized how the country works, I
have realized that this is not what being an American means. Since the nation was established in
1776, the leadership of the country led by George Washington created the true definition of what
being an American means. Since then, Americans have created the definitions of being an
Americans factors which make the country unique in the world.
Therefore, if I had to choose a place to live anywhere in the world, I would still choose to live in
America! For me, the first thing which comes in my mind when I hear the word America is a
privilege. When is say privilege, it does not mean all the Americans are not living in poverty, and
there are no people dying of diseases, or the fact that the country is facing some security issues.
No. when I talk of privilege, I mean that I have the privilege of being an American. Such
