Like many other multinationals, Alibaba has used strategic alliances for purposes of
growth and market domination. One of the major strategic alliances that the organization has
made is with a leading children’s entertainment firm known as Spin Master Corp. Spin Master is
a Canadian organization that designs, develops, manufactures consumer products for children.
The alliance will be strategic to the two companies in terms of strengthening their digital brands
and capabilities which will have a positive impact on the two organizations in the long run
(Buckley, 2018). Alibaba will be able to sell toys which are valuable to its consumers and also
allow it to diversify its sources of income from just retail to manufacturing. Spin Master will
also gain the Chinese market which could prove to be very valuable.
Another organization that Alibaba entered a strategic alliance with is Sun Art Retail
Group. The organization is the top hypermarket organization in China (Cadell & Kwok, 2017).
The strategy is based on Alibaba’s interests to enter offline retail. Alibaba predominantly
operates in online retail where it provides a place for retails to meet consumers. However, an
alliance with Sun Art Retail, the organization will also be able to operate offline which will
prove to be more productive. The physical stores will increase productivity by allowing buyers
and sellers to meet physically contrary to its online platform which such transactions cannot be
achieved. Also, it will reduce competition brought about by offline retailers.
Business and Corporate-Level Strategy
Growth seems to be the key focus for Alibaba’s business level strategy. The strategy used
to achieve this is differentiation where the organization is attempting to create alliances with

introducing new features which in this case are production and offline hypermarkets where
