Introduction
Online frauds are the dubious business transactions that are conducted electronically with
the aim of cheating and obtaining money from other people with or without their consent. These
activities are illegal since millions of people lose a lot of their hard earned money to the hands of
cons and fraudsters. Studies have been conducted worldwide, and they have been able to prove
online frauds are increasing as each day passes. Some of the countries that have been affected by
these cases of online frauds have been those from the Gulf region and to be specific a country
like Saudi Arabia. According to Alanezi, & Brooks, (2014), a total of 20% of individuals who
deposit their money in the banks reported for unrecognized money transactions within their bank
accounts. This was a high and there came the urge to bring necessary measures to curb these
actions of online frauds. This paper will review some of the perceptions of online frauds and
some of their implications in Saudi Arabia. It will also be looking at the importance of creating
awareness campaigns in the region and some strategies that can be employed to curb the vice of
online fraud.
