a binary compound contains chromium and iodine and has a mass of 8.301 grams. if the compound contains 12.05% chromum, calculate the ,ass of odine used from the compound and its emperical formula.

total mass 8.301 

If the compound contains 12.05%  Chromium 

That means weight of chromium in the compound = 12.5/100 x 8.301 

                                             = 1 gm 

So it means the mass of iodine is 8.301gms - 1gm = 7.301gms 

2) Determine moles:

Cr ā‡’ 1 g / 51.996g/mol = 0.019 mol 

Iodine Iā‡’ 7.301/126.904 g/mol = 0.0575 mol
