The narrative is a revenge plot that is executed with the utmost accuracy and deception.
Montresor comes out as a meticulous planner who has studied the weaknesses of Fortunato the
drunken man. In this part, Montresor lets his feelings known towards Fortunato by depicting that
Fortunato has wronged him over a thousand times and that he is so angry about an insult from
him that he decides he needs to revenge. Montresor shows his desire and plans to murder him
using the deception of a cask of sweet wine that he knows that Fortunato will fall for since he is a
