CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL INFORMATION GOVERNANCE PROGRAM: PHASE I: Please read and familiarize yourself with the general description for your research project included in the CONTENT section of iLearn. You are the team leader/chair for the Information Governance Committee/Team responsible for implementing a company wide information governance program for your organization. You team has met on one occasion and has identified an initial set of goals and challenges for the organization in the development and implementation of the company’s IG program. Your second meeting with the team is fast approaching and you have told your team members that during this next meeting you will discuss with them the overall plan and the steps that the team will take in order to implement information governance in the organization. In order to be prepared for that meeting, please do the following: 1. Conduct the necessary research to familiarize yourself with different organizations, associations, affiliates and accrediting agencies who can provide guidance on the implementation of information governance in the health care industry. Please summarize and explain the results of your research. 2. Develop in writing a detailed, step-by-step plan for an overall information governance plan at CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL. You may use diagrams, tables, and any other references that assist in the explanation of your information governance plan. However, you may NOT substitute your table or diagram for a complete narrative explanation. 3. Recall, the author of your text has repeatedly emphasized that above all else you must operate within the confines of the law. Assume CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL is located in Louisville, Kentucky. Conduct the necessary research to familiarize yourself with both the federal and state laws that will must be taken into consideration and/or which will have a direct impact on the health care industry, and therefore your organization’s information governance plan. You must be able to explain to your team members what these laws are, their sources, how they affect your organization, and what you will do to implement your information governance program within the confines of these laws. Please in writing provide a detailed explanation of the results of your search for legal information in a format that you would be able to hand out to your team members during your next meeting. Phase I of this semester long research project is worth 10% of your overall semester grade. The quality of your work on this phase of the project can impact your final semester grade by an entire letter grade. Do not minimize the importance of this assignment. Also, do not expect that you can do anything less than doctorial quality work and receive a satisfactory grade. The above three questions must be properly researched and explained. Also, please expect that your paper will be checked for plagiarism. Whenever you quote directly from a source, include the quotation in the appropriate quotes and cite the source. When you summarize information form a source, use proper references and endnotes or footnotes in enough detail that the reader can go directly to your source reference. Plagiarism and all other forms of cheating will not be tolerated. Your paper should be submitted on or before the deadline using the proper submission link in iLearn, Content section, folder for Semester Research Project. Prior to integrating Implementing Information Governance, it is imperative that
performance is improved significantly so as to ensure that the City General Hospital is able to
counter all the challenges that it is faced with. Information governance is important for a number
of reasons. The American Health Information Management Association that is in essence a
system-wide framework utilized for the management of data amid its cycle of existence as well
as act as a pillar upon which regulatory frameworks, strategies in an organization, environmental
and risk requirements may be upheld and supported (Skillsplatform, n.d; Eastcheshire. (n.d).).
The numerous challenges in the contemporary world and more so, in the healthcare industry,
creates a need for the need for security as the risks increase, a need for audits and compliance
reports and assessments, the dire need for intensive patient engagement as well as the integration
of reimbursement models (Sligo et al, 2017).
As such, it is essential to note that the information governance is more or less a guide that
is practical. Needless to say, information governance is founded on accountability in which case
this may allow for the City General Hospital to achieve the objectives and goals in alignment
with relative data (Eastcheshire, n.d). Needless to say, these data needs to be consequential in
that it upholds on the organizational priorities as the data comes from a trustworthy source and
may, therefore, be relied upon for decisions making that is imperative for the advancement of the
hospital, the clinical practice therein as well as the financial undertakings of the hospital
(Skillsplatform, n.d).
It is essential that the City General Hospital is able to comprehend the dynamics of
information governance and the challenges that may arise thereof. Some of the challenges
include; technological funding, leadership, education, as well as securing resources. As such, a
team may be essential at this juncture in such a manner that various disciplines are represented
and where the delegation of duties will be with due regard, to other competencies in the
management of information (Shah, et al, 2016; Skillsplatform, n.d). In this way solving
predicaments within the hospital will provide a facile task. It is essential similarly to ascertain
that the data is gathered from a viable information platform where all policies, processes, and
procedures are current.
