1. Has Google implemented a strategy that serves all stakeholders? 2. How can Google respect privacy and still maintain its profitability? 3. How will increasing global regulation of privacy affect Google’s operations? 4Take a position on the question: "Is it Acceptable to Promote a Socially Irresponsible, but Legal Product to Stakeholders? 5. After reading the Debate issue in Chapter 2, Take a Stand, I believe that it is not acceptable to promote a socially irresponsible but legal product to stakeholders. The reason that I think this is an issue is because by promoting something that is not technically illegal but a very bad thing to do, I believe it is very wrong. A company should not be promoting society to do negative things. Take A Stand, is about Avid Life Media who owns many companies, including very controversial company Ashley Madison. Ashley Madison's motto is "Life is short, Have an affair," the website has more than 31 million users over its lifetime. "The company encourages married men and women to spend less than a minute to register on the largest website to openly promote infidelity." As seen from what the purpose of this business is, it is very ethically wrong. This company encourages married men and women to cheat on each other. As an established company I believe that their main goal should be to remain ethical. It is known that ethical companies will be more successful in the long run. Although it is completely wrong for this website to promote cheating, it is not technically illegal and because of that, they legally are not doing anything wrong. Although it is ethically wrong what they are doing, it is ultimately up to the consumers whether a business fails or succeeds. "Consumers have the right and power to decide which companies succeed or fail." Since there are people out their with bad intentions, I believe that it should be businesses main goal is to keep ethics in business. Making money off of people doing bad things is disgusting. In this article, Although the hackers were trying to help society by shutting down the website, threatening to leak members names was even more unethical. I do not believe it is acceptable to promote a socially irresponsible, but legal product, but technically they are allowed to do this. 6. Socially responsible companies have a positive impact on how well they treat their stakeholders, the business landscape, the environment, and society as a whole. These companies abide by the principles and values of business ethics such as integrity, honesty, transparency, and trustworthiness. However, Ethical dilemmas have been a serious issue but companies pay little to no attention to the negative externalities that come about when the issues aren't being resolved. In Take A Stand, the company faces a series of allegations consisting of threats about releasing confidential emails if the website wasn't shut down. This company has increased divorce rates, contributed to 1 suicide, and promotes infidelity in society. The main problem was hacking. According to article, Affair site Ashley Madison reaches $1.6 million Settlement, hackers were able to breach the Ashley Madison website and release personal information such as "customer names, addresses, credit card information, and sexual preferences for more than 36 million customers." (McCoy, 2016). The website promotes cheating as a good thing to do. It is unethical to promote the website, but stakeholders have a "choice" when they first sign up. By agreeing to the terms, consumers are technically stating that its okay to cheat. I don't agree with what the company stands for, but its very surprising that the website is still able to gain a lot of customers from the female demographic even after the breach. In a perfect world, it is not acceptable to promote a socially irresponsible, but legal product to stakeholders because it defeats the purpose of being a socially responsible company. Though these products generate revenue, they have a negative impact on the environment and society. In Article, Socially Irresponsible Companies with High Returns, states there are many successful companies that "operate in industries and provide goods and services that might be considered sinful or otherwise unhealthy" (Bojinov, 2015). Ashley Madison markets its cheating service and many consumers like the idea which comes to show the impact this socially irresponsible website has on consumers minds. Even though these products cause serious societal issues, many consume them.
