The Long Match was a monumental journey caused by the Chinese civil war in a struggle
for power between the communist and nationalist party. The civil war was caused by fighting
between the nationalists and the Soviet republic of China, where each side fought to control the
country after the fall of the Qing Dynasty (Khan, 2018). The war involved both ideology and the
location of China’s capital city. Chiang Kai Shek took control of the nationalist and attempted to
kick the communist party of China out of the government. A communist party attempted a
number of uprisings under the stewardship of Mao Zedong, who received considerable support
from Chinese peasants.
In 1921, the communist party established a Chinese Soviet republic in southern China. At
this point, Zhu De, an aristocratic army officer who trained the Red Army in the south, led the
