Topic 1: The Power of the Market - 1990 1 Assignments 2-8 are video based discussion assignments. Each of these assignments requires you to watch and discuss the video linked in header of each discussion board. Videos relate real world economic issues. Assignments 2-7 are based on a series of lectures by Nobel price winning economist Milton Friedman. The lecture series is titled - "Free to Choose." Please note that these lectures were originally done during the 1970s with the original video format in 1980. Some of the videos were updated in 1990. Although the videos are a little dated, the content of the videos is as important today as in the 1970s. The final video - for assignment 8 - offers an economics based discussion of globalization and is much newer than the other videos. Topic 1: The Power of the Market
Milton Friedman is one of the renowned figures in the field of economy. Friedman
together with Rose Friedman came up with this television series called free to choose. This
program was meant to shed some light and give a general understanding of how society more
so the United States would embrace this concept. Free to choose in this case explains how the
growth of individual citizens, the various markets and the economy at large can be enhanced
by merely granting the people that freedom (Thornton, 2016).
According to Friedman, there is some effort and hunger that comes from within when
people are left to make their choices. He claims that instead of the governments putting so
many restrictions on the market, it should let the market to operate with the laws of demand
and supply in the market. This would be giving the investors and the market authority to
decide or have complete authority in the direction...
