Introduction

One of the hot topics in the United States it is immigration, which has been there for a long
time not just something new. Most of the current immigration concerns in the country date back
to the mid 19th century, where the immigration arguments targeted the Chinese. The Chinese
Exclusion Act signed in 1882 by president Chester Arthur was a law that sought to prohibit workers
from China from entering the United States. This act was one of the most significant American
restriction, which resulted in setting standards for the country immigration policies (National
Archives, 2018).

Background of the Chinese Exclusion Act

Immigrants started arriving in the country around 1820, escaping poverty from their own
countries. The number kept in increasing mainly during the Californian Gold rush in 1848, which
lured many immigrants from the countries with poor economies to North America, with hope o
making wealth to support their families. Due to the lack of railroads and the California location, it
