We are in a digital era where globalization has been on the rise and this we attribute to
technological advancements. Globalization basically implies to a number of processes by which
business and other organizations come up with international influences. In the 3rd Edition of the
book, “Globalization” by Steger, various aspects of globalization have been discussed. Chapter 7
of this book covers the ideologies of globalization. Among the many concepts that are discussed
in this Chapter, I find market globalization very interesting. Market globalization is highly
increasing in the world and most organizations are adapting to it despite the few challenges that
Marketing globalization is a term that combines promotion and selling of products and
services over the borders of countries and continents. This takes place in an increasingly
integrated and interdependent global economy. The concept of the global market makes business
organizations appear stateless and without walls. In addition, globalization in marketing make
attempts to breakdown the existing barriers that may prevent trade and ideas across the globe and
this is one fact that fascinates me. I find this concept very interesting because of the
technological tools that make these trades possible. The Internet is an integral cultural and
marketing tool that helps various companies to conduct their businesses across their borders. As
a matter of fact, globalization marketing could have not been effective or even possible without
the invention and use of the Internet. I love technologies and the manner in which Internet
technologies help in facilitating international trade is just interesting. This ranges from market
search to actual marketing and transactions. Organizations can simply market their products
through the Internet through their websites or social media, sell online and delivery is made.
1. Steger; 2013, “Globalization” 3rd Edition, published by Oxford Press.
Steger the author of this book states that globalization has become a common word of our time.
According to him, globalization defines a variety of phenomena that may seem to be complex.
These phenomena include complex economic, cultural, political, ideological and environmental
forces that have the ability to alter our experience of the world. Since the end of World War 2,
the national boundaries have been slowly fading as manufacturing concerns, financial markets,
cultural products, and information services have been spreading around the world. The tool that
is helping people and business organizations to connect from different countries is the internet
which connects people from different countries virtually. The book goes beyond the economic
focus to give the causes and consequences of globalization. The author also analyzes global
political movements on globalization and tackles rise in jihadism and WTO protests.
2. Sociology of Globalization, Cultures, Economies, and Politics; Edited By Keri E.
The author of this book argues that all talk about globalization is just talking. He brings out that
there is no much difference from the time that globalization is on notch right now and the time
that it never existed even before World War 2. According to him, the global economy is not
much different from the manner in which it existed previously. Whatever the benefits,
tribulations and trials, the global economy is not different. The author argues very different from
what other authors are suggesting about globalization and what he agrees on with most of the
author is that globalization has been influenced by developments in communication systems.
According to this article, pessimists view globalization as an affair of the North where other
developing societies of the south do not have an active role.
3. Archibugi, Daniele and Iammarino, Simona (2001). The globalization of technology
and national policies. In: Archibugi, Daniele and Lundvall, Bengt-Åke, (eds.). The
Globalizing Learning Economy. Oxford University Press, Oxford, UK,
The author defines the kind of world that we live in today as a contemporary world with a
contemporary economic system. Knowledge is the driving force to the changes that we encounter
and the benefits will depend on how we use the new knowledge and innovations that we have. It
is stated in this article that welfare and economic growth depends on how the economic agents
are able to exploit the benefits brought by technological innovations. Globalization is one way
through which we exploit the technological innovations and it has led to a remarkable
transformation. Globalization has brought new perspectives on how firms conduct business, how
education is done and many more.
