  1. Discuss the principles related to the occurrence and transmission of communicable and infectious diseases.
  2. Describe the three focus areas in Healthy People 2020 and the objectives that apply to communicable and infectious diseases.
  3. Identify and discuss nursing activities for the control of infectious diseases at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention.
  4. Identify and discuss a communicable and/or infectious disease that it was believed to be eradicated and have reemerged now. For example; measles.

In the occurrence and transmission of infectious disease, there are various
principles. The following are the principles concerning the same:
The biological and epidemiological principles are the main determinants of
disease transmission for the case of communicable diseases (Franco, Bilal, & DiezRoux, 2015). The principle of multi-causation is an important issue which occurs for
the case of the disease, and it involves multiple factors which aggregate to contribute
to the disease causation. For these principles, a disease is caused by a complex
chain of interrelated factors such as the host, environment and the agent of
transmission which plays a typical role to achieve the disease infection (Thompson,
Gilligan, & Cunniffe, 2016). Secondly, the spectrum of infection matters in any form
of infection, and it includes the subclinical infection which implies to an asymptomatic
phase of the disease, the infectious stage is another aspect of the spectrum which
means to the random multiplication of the infectious agent within the host. The
