As you think back over the content and skills covered in this course, consider ideas which you might expand into an internship activity. Remember, your internship is a time of doing, a time of applying what you have learned in a real-world educational setting. In this assignment, you will select, reflect on, and propose your best idea. After your instructor provides feedback and grades the internship proposal with your idea, you may implement the idea as a part of your internship provided your mentor has also approved this proposal. This can be accomplished now and then saved to upload into your internship course later, or you may wait until you are enrolled in the internship course. Some activities are time sensitive such as visiting a school board meeting or working on annual budgets. While the 10-week course, EL5983 Internship Experience for Educational Leadership, will provide the opportunity to place the finishing touches on your internship activity and documentation, you are encouraged to participate in the internship throughout your program and complete as many activities/hours as possible prior to your enrollment in EL5983. You will submit this proposal to the course and maintain a copy for your use in completing the internship activity. Reflection and Selected Internship Activity Your goal in this proposal is to reflect and build on the content and skills covered in this course to design and propose an internship activity. Begin the process by reflecting on the following: • • • • • • What ideas from the course resonated with you? What is the source of their appeal? Which idea has the greatest potential for expansion into an internship activity with real-world application in an educational setting? What criteria are you using to make this decision? How does the proposed internship activity align with the organization area you selected for your final internship a paper? Provide an example of1-3 connections you might make. How will designing and implementing this activity promote student achievement? Be specific when explaining the benefits to students and their performance. How will designing and implementing this activity make you a more effective leader? Be specific when describing the leadership traits, you hope to develop or expand. Activity Objectives This is your opportunity to explain what you want to do during the internship activity. Describe what you want to learn and achieve. You may write this in paragraph form or use bullet points to highlight the specifics you want to accomplish. Use Bloom’s Taxonomy verbs to make your objectives measurable. (Bloom’s Taxonomy resources are located on the Learning Objects page). The objectives should be designated as to how they align to one or more program outcomes. Real-World Application A real-world application identifies an area within an actual setting, one which might need support, improvement, revision, or other opportunity requiring you to demonstrate your leadership skills. Applying theory and understanding of the tenets within the course is an aspect of application. Not all theories apply to all situations. An aspect of your proposal should demonstrate your ability to critically judge a circumstance and then determine an appropriate course of action. • • • • How do you envision your leadership role in the internship activity? What will be your leadership responsibilities? How will you accomplish your objectives? List and describe each specific step/activity and the estimated time for each one. (This estimate should match your total requested hours for this activity). How will you keep a record of the outcomes of the various steps and the culminating results? Describe your record-keeping process. Method of Evaluation Your faculty member will use a rubric to formally evaluate your proposal on its merits in demonstrating how you have applied what you have learned in this course. • • How will you personally evaluate your activity? How will you know you have achieved what you set out to accomplish? Final Reflection If you are in your final course, you will have completed your internship and another proposal is unnecessary. Type “YES” in the initial information box above. For this assignment, complete the following: The proposal process was designed to support the pre-planning aspect of leadership, giving you an opportunity to exercise needed skills in critically evaluating a situation and determining the best course of action.
