Self reflection is very essential in enabling individuals to more clearly understand their
feelings (Kross et al. 1032-1039). In particular, being able to understand one’s negative feelings
is useful in improving health outcomes. Any intervention that can help people to reflect on their
thoughts and feelings that encompass negative experiences lead to several physical health and
mental benefits, including, but not limited to, reduced sickness, reduced intrusive thoughts and
improved immune system levels (Kross et al. 1032-1039). Self reflection not only entails
remembering of past life events but also analyzing such events to make sense of one’s current
situation in terms of behavior and coping. Precisely, self reflection involves reconstructing life
events and providing explanations and evaluations of those events (Staudinger 148-160). The
events may be grouped into different categories on the basis of convenience. Through groupings,
a foundation is established from which one can abstract from concrete events as well as
behaviors. One may also use the groupings to identify important themes and characteristics.
Once these have been identified, comparisons can be made to establish progress over time.
Comparisons also aid self understanding and also improve life insight of an individual
(Staudinger 148-160). It is important to note, however, that self reflection does not necessarily
focus on a person’s full personal past but rather focuses on certain occurrences and sequences or
even life topics that aim at establishing certain life insights. Precisely, the object of self reflection
is determined by the function which the reflection is meant to serve. For self reflection to be
effective, a consideration should be made, not only for the past but also the future. By taking into
