Introduction
Gun control has been a controversial issue not only in America but throughout the world.
The number of firearms in the hands of citizens has continued to increase due to the legalization
of guns in some states and the black market as well. Firearm possession in America has escalated
over the years with current statistics indicating that there are 393 million firearms owned by
civilians, a figure enough for every man, woman, and child to possess a firearm in America and
still leave 67 million guns unpossessed. While America make up 4% of the global population,
U.S owns 46% of the total worlds’ stock of 857 million civilian firearms according to a Small
Arms Survey by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
This increase in gun possession has led to a heated debate regarding the legalization of firearms
in America. The topic has received lots of response, with some people supporting that citizens
should have guns for protection purposes considering that the levels of crime have increased.
However, the opponents of gun ownership hold that the availability of guns has increased the
levels of crimes such as robbery with violence and homicides. In response to the issue of gun
