Understanding Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder takes two forms. Type I and Type II.
Type I: causes maniac periods alternating with bouts of depression. Periods of wellness
characterize these signs, which can last weeks or months.
Type II: depression occurs but with mild forms of mania, commonly known as hypomania.
Other unspecified forms of bipolar Disorder exist, and include Cyclothamia which is manifested
through frequent change of moods, but mild. Bipolar Disorder is a terminology describing mood
and energy symptoms which are few, but which are inadequate for classification as clear cut
episodes (Phillips & Frank, 2016). When mood changes take place over a one-year period, it
becomes the threshold for Bipolar Disorder. Men and women experience Bipolar Disorder
differently but statistical findings show women are more affected by Bipolar Disorder compared
