There are a number of essential concepts which leaders need to learn in order to
experience effective leadership careers. Good leaders are made, and sometimes they are born and
natured into effective leaders. The willpower and desire to be an effective leader should enable
an individual to strive for excellence in leadership. For a leader to inspire those he leads into
higher levels, there are vital steps which must be put into consideration in order to achieve this
goal. The essay will examine essential concepts and characteristics of good leadership traits in
the workplace in an organization which depends on effective leadership.
The trait theory puts focus on the process of identification of different characteristics and
personality traits which are linked to leadership which is successful across different situations.
This line of leadership came up as an early way of investigating how the nature of effective
leadership is related to the traits owned by a leader (Weiss, 2015).
According to the trait theory, extraordinary leaders shape history in the sense that they
have leadership traits since they were born. The theory also clarifies that the traits of leadership
cannot be developed. Effective leadership focuses on inheritable traits. The theory based its
rationale on particular traits which produce particular behavioral patterns. The patterns are also
found to be consistent across a variety of different situations. It also states that people are born
with the traits of leadership (Weiss, 2015).
For example in the current business setting of the world, the trait theory type of
leadership may be essential in bringing up great leaders. The leadership skills may be
predestined in some leaders, and in others, it may be impossible. The most effective leaders in
the world may not have this trait, and for this matter, a variety of theorists have argued that
credibility is the key to effective leadership skills. This involves being honest, inspiring, forwardlooking and competent. An individual who lacks these traits might not be effective even if he or
she was predestined to be a great leader. The theorists, therefore, have the view that a great
leader is natured from the interactions he or she makes and the social situation around them and
not just predetermined traits (Weiss, 2015).
The effect of power and influence leaders have on followers in the organization. The

When leaders have followers, they feel the power which has been accorded to them. The
leaders gain more influence from the followers if they have high levels of charisma compared to
those who have less charisma. When a situation of power struggle is present, powers may be
misused for the reason of solving the contentious situations. Some of the leaders faced with this
situation may independently choose to give their support to different groups. This situation,
therefore, may lead to a situation where there are differences in the organization. If such
