The Most Important Skills to Learn in College
Sanford J. Ungar connotes that liberal arts does not only teach students how to make a
living but also impact rich values and character (p.232). While this statement is true, I do not
agree to the assertion evident that only liberal arts have the capabilities to so. I believe that
college in general despite the program one is enrolled to, impact rich values and character due
to the experiences and training in both academic and non-academic spheres. The general
experience a student has in college contributes partially or wholly to the life skills they adapt
or learn irrespective of their program. Student’s get to train on and acquire different skills in
college. The most important skills to learn are life skills such as creative and critical thinking,
decision making and problem-solving, self-awareness and empathy, interpersonal skills and
communication, resilience and coping. Life skills not only train on the ability to adapt but
also impacts positive behaviors that human being needs to deal effectively with the
challenges and demand of life.
Firstly, creative and critical thinking are the abilities to use reason, logic, innovation,
