1. Disruptive and directional selection
In nature, evolution occurs through selection. Organisms which belong to the same species
have different traits that prominently differentiate them. Plants with features that give them the
ability to survive in the environment increase their number and their offspring thus evolving the
species. The directional selection is a theory in which organisms with extreme phenotypes have
higher chances of survival over other phenotypes. This then influences the allele frequency to
modify in favor of such extreme phenotypes. For instance, the giraffe has a long neck to which
gives it the ability to reach more food on taller trees.
