Outline
1.Subject chosen: EU on United Kingdom’s plan to change Brexit deal
✓ A referendum vote was conducted in Thursday 23 June, 2016 in United Kingdom where
over 30 million people voted for Brexit.
✓ Two and half years later, having experienced the effects of the BREXIT, Britain now
wants to go back to the table and renegotiate the deal with the European Union
✓ This news has been covered widely by the international media.
✓ Different media houses have presented the issue in different ways
✓ This debate of similar news articles, been presented from different points of view and
passing different messages yet on the same subject raises issues on their authenticity and
the due diligence that media houses do in covering the stories prior to their publication
✓ In most cases, the news we read in articles is biased to reflect on the culture of their
setting
✓ This report will be based on the recent attempts by Britain led by Theresa May to go back
to the table with regards to the Brexit deal to demonstrate how historiography is created
in the contemporary media world and the way in which bias happens frequently in
newspaper articles whether deliberately or by default
2. The first news article is The Guardian which is a British Newspaper
✓ Titled “No renegotiation, says EU after MPs back plan to replace backstop”
✓ Emphasizes on the standpoint of Donald Tusk, who holds the most senior office in the
EU who asked Theresa May to explain what she would do since the Brexit agreement did
not allow for any re-negotiations
✓ Presents Britain as a country full of potential and investment destination
✓ Faults the EU, and is clearly biased to favor Theresa May
3. Second article under scrutiny is The American news media CNN
✓ Titled “EU rules out renegotiating Brexit deal (again)”
✓ Seems to give a stab to Theresa May on her bid to call back the EU members to the
negotiation table
✓ Has more concerns on how the no renegotiation deal will financially impact on U.K. it
also gives a hint of the security and economy lapse that may occur
4. The third analysis will be based on a Canadian newspaper, The Globe And Mail
✓ Titled “EU Rejects Britain’s Request To Renegotiate Brexit Deal”
✓ The article is based on the declaration by the European Union that it is not ready for any
renegotiations whatsoever

✓ The article depicts some bias putting Britain on the wrong side by stating that since the
issue of Brexit came up in 2016, its reputation has already been tainted and it no longer
earns the regard and appreciation as Europe’s ideal destination for foreign ventures
5. Aljazeera news channel, based in Qatar’s headquarters Doha,
✓ Its article “EU Rejects Theresa May's Plans To Change Brexit Deal”
✓ Presents the British Prime Minister as an opportunist who does not want to leave EU
without a deal
✓ Describes UK as confused on what it wants
✓ Presents the arguments regarding the economy in a pessimistic tone
✓ Is more analytical and explains the basis of the renegotiation being proposed by May

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
