Question Description

Use the “Midwest State Data Set” reference to complete assignment. You will be doing descriptive statistics calculations in Megastat. Submit both your Word file (one file) and your Excel file (one file) with the MegaStat output.

Use MegaStat statistical software to perform the following analyses:

1. For the variables “State GDP, “State Sales Tax Revenue," and "Personal Consumption Spending" compute the following descriptive statistics:

Mean, median, standard deviation, interquartile range, 25th and 75th percentiles, compute outliers, and apply the empirical rule as well to each variable all using Megastat.

2. Based upon the statistics generated in question #1 write up a short analytical report of what you found. Do this in a Word file please.This means you interpret all of the statistical output asked for in question #1. Create a table to accompany your interpretation, make sure you answer the question. Correctly interpret the statistical findings so DO NOT JUST GIVE ME OUTPUT, be specific. Use the reference attached below to answer questions.

Include the excel file with all output from Megastat for #1 as well as a Word doc to answer question #2.

Descriptive Statistics

The purpose of the paper is to present descriptive statistics of, “State GDP, “State
Sales Tax Revenue," and "Personal Consumption Spending." All the variables are
quantitative and measured on a ratio/interval scale. The total sample size for the study was
found to b 66.
State GDP
The average state GDP was found to be 292385.35 with a standard deviation of
197676.13.Considering the Mid-West regions of the US, 50% of the state had GDP higher
than 257695.50.Further, 25% and 75% of the observation was found to have a state GDP
lower than 137904 and 304003.75 respectively. The spread of the middle 50% of the dataset
was found to be 166099.75.In order to identify outliers, a box plot was a draw. The box plot
shows the presence of a significant number of outliers in the dataset (Appendix A). Based on
the empirical rule, 75.8%, 92.4% and 100% of the observations were found to lie within one,
two and three standard deviation respectively.
State Sales Tax Revenue
The average state sales tax revenue was found to be 5397818.39 with a standard
deviation of 4453445.2.Considering the Mid-West regions of the US, 50% of the state had
sales tax revenue higher than 4030976.5.Further, 25% and 75% of the observation was found
to have a state sales tax revenue lower than 3047935.25 and 4929636.5 respectively. Further,
the spread of the middle 50% of the dataset was found to be 1881701.25.The box plot showed
the presence of a significant number of outliers in the dataset (Appendix A). Based on the
empirical rule, 83.3%, 90.9% and 100% of the observations were found to lie within one, two
and three standard deviation respectively.

Personal Consumption Spending

The average personal consumption spending was found to be 202488.36with standard
deviation of 131582.10.Considering the Mid-West regions of the US, 50% of the state had
personal consumption spending higher than 186079.Further, 25% and 75% of the observation
was found to have a personal consumption spending lower than 90919.5 and 220877.75
respectively. The spread of the middle 50% of the dataset was found to be 129958.25. The
box plot shows the presence of a significant number of outliers in the dataset (Appendix A).
Based on the empirical rule, 69.7%, 92.4% and 100% of the observations were found to lie
within one, two and three standard deviation respectively.
