Some of the reasons why organisations need to have written mission statement would include;
1. Real evaluation for better prospects.
When the organisations activities and achievements reflects the written mission, then the company or organisation is poised for the right direction. This creates room to open up more improvement opportunities.
2. Signifies company direction.
The real idea and foundation of the company should be well stated. Signifies the aim and goal of the organisation, while reminding of key policies and procedures of the organisation.
3.provides a benchmark to decision making
The mission of the organisation keeps in check unfamiliar activities and loss of direction for the company. This preserves the company interest while keeping it's tradition.

4. Mission represents the future.
This may sound confusing with 'vision', but mission is what keeps organisations striving for the vision, mision being each days account.
5. Invites change.
When the mision of the company is not turning out practically, decisions which call for change are considered. This takes back the organisation to its mission and focused to achieve its vision.
