Acupuncture can be termed as a form of alternative medicine that can be traced to
traditional Chinese medicine. The practice is widely spread in Chinese culture such that is has
been construed as a form of medicine. Acupuncture can be termed as pseudoscience since it
based on a collection of misplaced beliefs and practices. Such practices are termed scientific but
tend to be inconsistent with scientific methods. Acupuncture as a form of medicine is based on
inserting needles at particular points in the body (Ranchod, 2017). The points of insertion are
determined based on the belief of the existence of a “life force.” Traditional Chinese medicine
states that the “life force” moves around the body along lines known as meridians. Each
condition can be traced to a particular set of meridians. The needles are meant to tap into the
“life force” within the meridians and institute self-healing.
The condition is used in treating various types of pain such as musculoskeletal problems,
headaches, migraines, and knee pains. This type of alternative medicine is used with other forms
of medication to achieve well-being. However, the condition lacks the backing on scientific
research. That is based on the premise that it does not hold psychological or histological
