What was the goal of this experimental study?
The main aim of the study was to show that sulfuric acid acts as a primary sedimentological
agent on the Martian surface. As such, the research would introduce the concept of erosion and
disposition resulting from acid production. Finally, the study would be used to show that such
liquids as sulfuric acid should be considered as possible sedimentological agents on Mars (pg.
330).
What safety measures were considered in the experiment design?
Being an experiment that would make use of highly concentrated acidic reagents, there was the
need for the individuals taking part in the experiment to ensure that precautions were put into
consideration. A laboratory fume hood was, therefore, a basic necessity and the stream table was
designed in a way that it would fit in the same. Materials used were to be acid resistant, and the
involved persons would put on safety gear including acid resistant aprons. This would prevent
them from getting any corrosive reaction...
