Sociology of development places a significant concern regarding changes that influence
social life, culture, demographics, and ecology of a given community (Shah). Sociologist refers to
social change as significant alterations in behavior, cultural values, and norms in the society over
time (Shah). One of the significant causes of these changes includes demographic changes caused
by migration of people. Social movements also play a vital role in endorsing for justice by
condemning social injustices in society (Shah). Social changes are believed to have long-term
consequences among the community. Social change is brought about by political movement’s
ideologies and diffusion of people leading to the formation of social groups.
Country, Population and Issue
Brentwood, Central Islip, and Huntington towns in Long Island New York have seen a
major influx of minor unaccompanied immigrant from Central America since 2014.
Approximately nine thousand immigrants have migrated to the cities in long island leading to a
significant social change. According to the video, the increase in minor immigrants led to an
