Multiply eq. (1) by 4 and eq. (2) by 7 we get,

28x-20y=124    (3)

28x-49y=-21     (4)

Subtract the eq. (3) and eq.(4) we get

29y=145

y=145/29

y=5

By putting the value of y in eq.(1) we will get the value of x

7x-5y=31      (1)

7x-5(5)=31      

7x-25=31

7x=31+25

7x=56

x=56/7

x=8
