Why should we add solutes to water rather than adding water to the solute?

We do so as chemists so as to avoid occurrence of violent reactions. This especially true when diluting concentrated acid with water. The acid(solute) is added to the water for dilution. If you add water to the acid a violent reaction will occur and the required solution will not occur.

We therefore do so to avoid the possibility of a chemical reaction occurring . Since the required change when forming a solution is physical change
