Psychoanalytic theory – this is the personality theory that is founded on the view that
persons get inspired more by hidden forces that that are regulated by the conscious and the
rational thought. Sigmund Freud is closely linked to the psychoanalytic theory (Culler 23).
Consistent with Freud, the human conduct is formed through relations between three mind
components namely Id, Ego, and Super Ego. Id is the primitive section of the mind that looks for
instant gratification of biological needs. Super Ego is the part linked to the social or moral values
that a person inculcates while he matures. Ego is the conscious and the logical section of the
mind that is connected to the reality belief.
Reader-response theory – this is a theory that concentrates on the audience or reader
response to a given text. The key argument of this theory is that readers serve an active role in a
reading experience. The theory discards the structuralist perspective that meaning reside only
