In addition to updating their SWMP, Saranac County has asked you to evaluate whether it would make sense for the county to expand it's current landfill or build a landfill elsewhere in the county. The current location is on a major thorough fare, so it is easy to get the trucks to/from the facility. However, being on a major road also leaves the landfill in the public's eye (and nose and ears). The area is trying to portray itself as a tourist destination and a landfill is not a popular tourist attraction.

You know expanding the current site will be unpopular, so you recommend trying to buy land in a different location from the farmers. No farmers will budge for the price the county is willing to pay.

You are now tasked with preparing a conceptual landfill design to potentially expand the current site. Except for the major road immediately to the north and east of the landfill, the rest of the facility is surrounded by farms and rural roads, and a small creek on the west, which has already been relocated once for the last landfill expansion. The county does own approximately 200 acres immediately south of the current landfill.

Prepare a conceptual landfill layout depicting all important aspects for a new landfill. This does not have to be to scale or computer drawn, but should be comprehensive. Do not forget about vehicular maneuverability, and employee necessities.

You can scan and attach your drawing or attach a clear photo of your drawing. Please use shrubbery and/or large trees to block the landfill from view. Include gas and leachate systems within the design.
