When dealing with a country setting, the following aspects should make your reader realize the setting without you having to mention the country setting per se.
Windmill, hillside, streams, barnyard, field of corn, hay, truck, tractors, livestock(poultry, cattle etc), heavy accent, casual dressing in jeans and boots, vast fields of wheat or corn, hunting, coyotes, bee farming, dairy cattle, sheriff's office.
These can be mentioned along with descriptive terms such as adjectives in order for the reder to visualize the whole country setting.
