Christology
Christology is driven by two different issues; first is how big the space between us and the
New Testament authors is. The second is the distinction between the Jesus of Nazareth
recognized in history and the Christ that came as a result of the censure of the Bible. Christology
can thus be described to be a branch of theology that concerns itself with studying the role,
nature, person and the message of Jesus (Elliston, 2016). This paper will discuss the two types
of Christology; Historical and Transcendental. Historical in a nutshell is Christology from below
while Transcendental Christology begins with Jesus in heaven. Further, the views of the different
groups regarding the nature of Christ will be discussed.
Transcendental Christology
Christology from above starts with the word of God in heaven. Jesus takes the human flesh
form and comes to earth so that he can relate with mankind (Yi & Wei, 2017). Jesus is then
crucified on the cross in order to redeem humanity. He then rises from the dead and returns to an
exalted place as Lord. Christology from above is that Jesus initially existed with God before
becoming a human being. This results from the question on how Jesus is two in one. Human and
divine at the same time. It is from this that our spiritual attitude to Jesus postulates one with the
