Introduction

Crime is a socially expensive problem that affects many people. Not only is crime
socially expensive, but it also has extensive financial implications to the taxpayers' pocket. This
does not even account for the invaluable cost of human lives that are lost to crime. The only way
of quantifying crime is only by the use of statistics and dealing with the losses that can be
numerically analyzed. The 1960s saw an increase in the rate of crime in the US. This was
attributed to among many factors the end of World War 2. To understand some of the factors that
contribute to an increased crime rate, it is essential to analyze the factors that led to an increase
in crime rates in the 1960s.
