Maternal mortality is a concern in contemporary society. World Health Organization
(2018), defines maternal mortality as a total number of accounted deaths which occur during to
birth or before due complications during pregnancy. Deaths that occur due to accidents or any
other factor that does not relate to pregnancy do not count to maternal mortality. World Health
Organization records that approximately half a million women lose their lives every year due to
complication arise during while they are pregnant or during birth.
As maternal mortality remains a global concern, statistic indicates that the rates differ
seem to differ per country with less developed states recording higher rates than the developed
ones. For instance, in Canada, the mortality rate at below four percent with at most five deaths
per every one thousand and live births. The United States records about fourteen deaths in every
one thousand live births. In Japan, at most five women lose their lives in every one thousand live
births recorded. In the African continent, the situation is entirely different from the numbers
seemingly higher. Kenya, for instance, documents more than five hundred deaths for every one
thousand live births. In Lesotho, the rate is quite higher with the country recording more than
seven hundred deaths in every one thousand live deliveries. The difference in the rates among
