Hi,

A plea bargain generally refers to an agreement more so in criminal cases especially between the defendant and the prosecutor whereby the defendant or the accuser agrees to plead guilty to a particular charges in return for some concession especially from the prosecutor.  Plea bargains should be encouraged simply because they help avoid lengthy trials as the defendant and the prosecutor works together to reach an agreement instead of the case going to a jury. This enables both the prosecutor and the defendant avoid prolonged trials under court. At the same time the defendant is freed from guilty verdict that may result into severe sentence or charges.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
