Assignment:

In this Discussion, we turn to the case study of the Kahshoggi murder as chronicled serially in The Atlantic and use it as a springboard to contemplate how journalists the world over find themselves in jeopardy for carrying out their professional duties--reporting on newsworthy events that impact their readers and occasionally criticizing government officials for policies perceived as unjust to the public at large.

Task: Write a 400 word essay in which you present an argument about how the assigned texts depict (or, in the case of the fiction, imagine) the relationship between journalists and world affairs (politics).

Your essay has to make a provable thesis (not merely re-state or summarize the content of the readings). The textual evidence should use one example/quote each from

  • One of the assigned articles (give direct quote and include bib info in works cited)
  • The assigned podcast (direct quote or paraphrase with time-stamp)
  • either Jules Verne’s or Samrat Upadhyay’s short stories (direct quote and page # for Upadhyay story)

*Provide- 3 Textual Evidence in Support of Claims
