1 WEATHER Need to add more information and small pictures this is all the information you need The Point Paper should not be any longer then, 8 pages single or double spaced ( if it goes over no problem) and no less then, 7 pages. This would also include any sources and references you have. Font Size no smaller then 10, no greater then, 12. The paper will follow this format ( The 1st page would typically have name, title, abstract and probably have the start of the main body ) 1. Weather is a huge factor in placement and consideration of new energy technology. How do we maintain optimum performance, where do we put these devices? Do we put them in special areas of the country? How do we best use this technology? (This is meant to be open ended to accommodate the various devices out there) GEOG 1060, ‘Introduction to Physical Geography: Climate and Waters’ Point Paper 3 Date: August10, 2015 Name: K Weather Decades ago, weather was considered, only to be a purely natural event which sued to bring rain, flood and tornadoes and the humans were found completely helpless in the hands of gusty winds. But contemporarily, the weather has become a controllable factor, at some extent to get benefits from it wherever and whenever required. No one ever imagined that we would be able to ‘seed’ the weather (clouds) to get the estimated ‘fruit’. Now that has been made possible by inventing the weather controlling devices. The ultimate objective of using these devices is to formulate strategies to minimize the effects of pollution caused by industrial wastes thus causing global warming. One of the initial devices to control weather is a ‘chemtrail’. The deployment of these chemtrails was proved to be hazardous for the people of that area where these were experimented. Later on, these chemtrails were redesigned and upgraded and executed for further experiments. WEATHER 2 The weather modification technology has been emerged due to the climatic changes which are harmful for the human life. The weather modification devices have been invented to lessen the chances of unpredictable weather changes. These climatic changes are caused by ever increasing warfare activities, drastic increase in world’s population and pollution which is the reason of global warming. These modifications are done by specific devices to seed the clouds. These modifications can help us to grow more crops and to cause the artificial rainfalls. Like any other technological advancement, weather modification is also effective in its implementation but the benefits of this technology are still undiscovered. But every new technology comes with doubts for its feasibility, initially. So the researches have bene made that how the weather modification can be beneficial for the human life. These devises like seeding clouds are highly sophisticated and are managed and kept under government hands. These are sometimes facilities installed in a specific area where required. These are moveable and immovable devices and facilities respectively. The technology is still developing for the good of humanity but whatever developments have been shown, the idea behind the technology is positive to cater the strategies to be proactive in any severe climatic situation. The controversy arises when the application of the weather modification is planned for specific area or zone. It is not ethical according to businesses and rules of sociology that one person wants to have the snow in a specific are for its business specific needs and he pays to do get that done but the rest of the people living in that area who are already bearing the severity of the snow right in the middle of the winter, would face more road blockades. The applications of the weather modification technology has been tried to avoid the frost, harming the citrus fruits, grape gardens and many other crops. This has been successful aspect of the technology regardless of the controversies prevailing. This technology is used for the wartime need, this is yet another WEATHER 3 controversial benefit according to many groups but the technology for wars is also beneficial for the humanity to some extent like defence from the oppressors has been made possible through other weapons. So the weather modification usage in wars also depends upon the devised strategies and agenda behind that. Different projects have been launched to experiment the hypothetical weather modifications which have been successful at some extent. Project Storm fury was one those projects to minimize the tropical cyclones. The application of the new technology is yet limited due to a number of factors involved; legal issues, political issues, pressure groups and above all, the uncertainty of the results. Technology itself is not harmful but the experimental limitations have made its position ambiguous in the minds. Various efforts have been made to evaluate the executed plans for the fast developmental advancement in the field. The reports have shown that there are limitations due to which the speed of the research is slow. The main focus of the technological objectives is: 1. Better understanding of the climatic changes 2. The harmful impact of mainstream technology (other than weather modification) on the climate 3. Better predictions and control over the climatic challenges to manage the humanity’s least disaster and loss of lives. 4. To devise the climatic changes in the interest of human life These are the core factors which motivate the researchers every day to work towards a positive solution of the problems related to the weather modification and devices used for it. 4 WEATHER Conclusion: These devices if invented at the desired standards may help the humans to modify the weather to bring back the balance of ecosystems disturbed by their urbanization. This will anticipate overcoming all the problems related to the human life cycle. The prior most condition is the brisk progress in the ongoing R&D efforts for this new technology. Ultimately, the geological, biological and meteorological benefits of the discussed technology will give a positive impact to the socio-economic activities. These will directly help us to make the world a better and a safer place to live than ever. References Crate, Susan A; Nuttall, Mark, eds. (2009). With all the debate about dependency on Oil, what if any will Solar, Wind, Renewable fuels and or Geothermal going to do for us? GEOG 1060, ‘Introduction to Physical Geography: Climate and Waters’ Point Paper Date______,20__ NAME: Introduction Geo thermal refers to the two combined words, geo; the earth and thermal; heat so the meanings of the term geo thermal are the energy which is generated and kept under the earth. The generation of this energy is in the deepest of the earth. This substance by which the geothermal energy is made, is found everywhere. This is the biggest plus of this energy. United States is using geothermal energy for its applications for the electrical and nonelectrical options. Another long term advantage of this form of energy is its massive scale of usage in different forms. Facts Thermal energy is of two kinds; low grade and high grade. Geothermal power has been given another name for its commercial terminology as geo-exchange for the specialized purpose of providing the electricity to at residential and commercial scale for heat resource and cooling purposes. Geothermal heat pumps are not new to the world, the first ever installed geothermal pump was on Oct 1, 1945. The equipment which was installed at that time to exploit the earth’s thermal resources are still being installed for R & D purposes and at the moment the facilities related to this technology are operating in different regions of the world namely North America, Western Europe and some part of Asia. The future of the thermal power and the coupled devices for heating and cooling purposes is on the boom because of the availability of the thermal resources as natural and cost effective. Anything which is costeffective will surely have the space to work on. The thermal power plant works to produce energy for heating and cooling purposes as well as for the electricity by heating the working fluid, generally, the water to produce steam which is then transferred to a turbine for rotation. This rotation is connected to generators which produce electricity. The use of cooling and heating is easy to understand. A house located in a hot climate area can be facilitated with the processes of geothermal energy in such a way that the hot temperature of the house and surrounding area can be channelized through a systematic piping beneath the soil under same house or in the garden then it can be channelized back to make available the low temperature for the cooling purposes. The same process can be run in a complete reversed direction to get the heat energy for different domestic purposes. This can also be used in industrial areas for the production plants to fuel by the heat energy concept. The countries which have in-depth agricultural productions are ideal to use the geothermal energy because of the availability of land which makes easier for the process to take place. Moreover, the process of green-house to produce out-of-season crops is also possible in the severe weathers. Like the lemons are possible in hot weathers and the saffron is possible to produce in extreme cold weathers. So the geothermal technology has made it possible for the farmers to deliver non-seasoned fruits and vegetable to the consumers by heating or cooling the green-houses in completely opposite weathers outside of the green house. This is a cost-effective project for sustainable resources of energy. There are scenarios in which the cost-effectiveness of the geothermal projects are more viable. The geothermal plant can be installed in residential areas but in a house which has a big yard to install the domestic usage plant. Earth coupling devices are also cost effective and viable for the heating and cooling purposes. This is done by insulating the slabs of the floor. It is a simple and cost effective model for the domestic and commercial use of heating and cooling. This is also sustainable resource which can be applied for the long term use and the energy crisis can be resolved if given priorities for domestic in general and industrial usage in specific. The sustainability of the earth coupling devices are effective in some regions of the world where the climates are not so hot. The earth behaves ideally for the coupling device and the desired objectives are achieved. The hot climatic regions are not suitable for devising this technology but the research is still on its way to find out more solutions. Moreover, in this modern era when the fossil fuels are shrinking and cutting the cost is the main focus of the business for healthy economic activities, the feasibility of these projects become more appropriate. It is an environmental friendly project which also addresses the “Go Green” slogan of today’s concern of the stakeholders. Conclusion Concluding the whole discussion, we can consider that the geothermal and earthcoupling devices are cost-effective, non-hazardous to environment and human health. The only concern for best application of the emerging technology is to hire the best professionals of the field to carry out the operation of the installations. Moreover, these installations are far safer than other sources of energy generation. The policy makers must formulate encouraging strategies to implement these sustainable energy generation plans to make the world a better place to live. This technology has a number of advantages which is not only related to specific fields, it has the viability and feasibility to switch from the conventional way of energy generation. But the switch is not an overnight process so the suggestion for the solution is to carry on with the fossil fuels but devising the strategies to subsidize the geothermal energy generation projects.
