Explanation & Answer

Hi, here are the assignments :)

EXERCISE 1 DATA SHEET
1. What type of river is at location A, and how can you tell?
Answer:
The river is a Meandering River. The loops are formed when the volume of water is very high
and the velocity is low. The lakes which are cut off from the river are known as Ox bow lakes.
2. Discuss briefly the processes of erosion and deposition that are occurring in the area around
Location A.
Answer:
The erosion in the meandering rivers occur in the outer edge of the river whereas the
sedimentation occurs in the inner edge of the river. The erosion occurs when the river water hits
the outer edge as the river tends to travel straight, the eroded sediments are deposited in the inner
edge as the water loses its potential to carry sediments as the velocity is low.
3. Is there any evidence of these processes operating in the past along this portion of the Snake
River? If so, describe the evidence. If not, describe the evidence you would have expected to see
but did not.
Answer:
Yes, these processes have operated in the past, the evidence is the Ox bow lake
4. What type of river is at Location B?
Answer:
This part of the Colorad...
