Description

Final Project

In the first two written assignments, you selected one vulnerable population in need of a new program or service in your community. In this project, you will finalize the research that allows you to understand elements that go into designing and launching a community service. The Final Project will be written using a persuasive tone, such that you would be able to present it in order to gain community and organizational support for your program. The Final Project must demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, as well as your research and application of new knowledge. Your project must contain the following elements:

  • A description of the vulnerable population and why they need assistance in your community.
  • A description of the health service needs of the vulnerable population you have chosen to serve with your program.
  • In order to support the need for the service you propose, cite statistical data obtained from your county health department, state health department, and organizations or agencies who serve the vulnerable population.
  • A description of your proposed community service or program; include the specific service(s) provided and one continuum of care level (prevention, treatment, or long-term care). Explain how the selected service(s) and the continuum of care will impact the chosen population.
  • Discuss the social and cultural norms of your vulnerable population and how these play a role in the need for the services offered by your program. Describe how the vulnerable population experiences the health care system. Analyze methods your program can use to overcome social and cultural differences.
  • Identify two or more community organizations or agencies with which you can partner in order to implement your program. Explain how these organizations can help you implement the services you offer and the continuum of care offered by the potential partnering agencies. Explain which services these organizations will provide to your clientele that are not covered by your program.
  • Analyze at least four potential funding sources for your program, one of which must be from a state funded agency, one of which must be from a federally funded agency and the remaining two can be not-for-profit or for-profit business sources. Explain what factors must be met in order to receive funding from your sources.

Your final project will demonstrate quantitative literacy, which shows your ability to identify and solve problems. Additionally, you must demonstrate integrative learning, which means you combine your earlier learning from this and other courses, analyze data from multiple perspectives, explore issues to their full extent as is required in the assignment, as well as incorporate your own personal and professional experiences.

Be detailed and convincing in describing the above elements. For your presentation, you may choose between the following formats:

  • An APA formatted Final Paper
  • A PowerPoint Presentation

The Final Paper:

  • Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Running head: PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WITH HIV/AIDS Vulnerable Population Summary and Proposed program Chellbee I. Bradshaw Ashford University HCA 430 Week 3 Assignment PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WITH HIV/AIDS 2 Recap When looking at my previous work, three primary things were addressed in the program. One is the vulnerability of people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Patients from the minority culture are more likely to get less attention from the caregivers as compared to those from the majority culture. Another thing was the issue of income where people with HIV/AIDS can only live a better life if they have a higher income that can cater for their special diets and medication. The second thing that was addressed in the program was about the intersection of social, political and economic factors affecting vulnerability. The vulnerability was seen to reduce in places where the society can be able to take care of the infected individual. Though the majority still live in a discriminated society where people distance themselves from the infected individuals. The political system was seen to play an essential role, especially in America by enhancing the insurance policies so that the sick can easily be treated with low less payment. When individuals are funded economically, it becomes easier for them to cater for their treatment. The third point which was addressed was the different programs to eliminate social pressure on HIV/AIDS patients. I gave a good example using my own community where the victims are still discriminated and to eliminate this problem, I talked about the creation of awareness and for the sick to accept their condition and share with other people. Barriers that Impact the Health and Wellbeing of HIV/AIDS Patients There are several barriers that impact significantly on the health and wellbeing of the HIV/AIDS patients. This can be categorized into micro and macro levels. Under the individual or micro level, unemployment is a major concern. In most cases, people who suffer from HIV/AIDS cannot be able to work due to their weak immune system (Remien et al., 2015). Work is everything because, without a job, they cannot be able to pay for their PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WITH HIV/AIDS 3 health insurance which can cater for their treatment. Employment is what gives people finance to be used for treatment and a better diet. The second barrier which is macro or state is lack of development. When looking at the rural areas, there is no development due to lack of capital. The patients are forced to walk for long distances in search of a hospital for treatment. People living in a rural area should be given financial support by the government. There are fewer healthcare resources which are available to cater for the HIV/AIDS patient. When looking at the population of these patients, it keeps increasing from time to time. The health care institutions which are available cannot accommodate all the HIV/AIDS patients. This is because the supply of medicine and other health requirements for these patients is minimal compared to the population of the victims. I can give a good example from my community where there are a limited number of hospitals and each time the patients go for treatment, they have to wait for long hours before they can be treated. The number of caregivers is also limited which implies that the few workers have to work for long hours which is unhealthy to them. Proposed Solutions to the Barriers Since unemployment is a financial barrier, people can offer to give donations which can be used to purchase medicines and other requirements that might be used to cater for the HIV/AIDS patient. Apart from the individual's contributions, the insurance policies should be able to cater for these victims since they cannot be able to work due to their poor health. The state barrier which is mentioned above is lack of development. The government should support different rural projects such as better roads and hospitals so that patients can stop walking for long distances in search of treatment. If the government can give financial support to rural people, they can be able to set up hospitals and other developments. More PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WITH HIV/AIDS 4 health care institutions should also be established since the population of the HIV/AIDS victims has increased significantly (Albritton et al., 2017). Regulatory, Ethical, Legal and Accreditation Requirement When looking at the society at large, it is ethical to treat a patient suffering from HIV/AIDS with love and care. These people should be involved in all the communal activities so that they can have a sense of belonging when interacting with other people (Pattnaik, 2015). Caring for them involves taking them to the hospital and providing food for them since the majority cannot be able to work and cater for their daily needs. The government has put in place the equality act which protects people with HIV/AIDS from discrimination. This is a legal requirement that ensures the victims are treated like other people, be it at work, or any other place. In order to regulate the number of patients who die from this infection, there is a free supply of ARVs all over the world so that even the poor can access them and live longer. Those people who suffer from this infection are interviewed from time to time. The report given by these patients is used as accreditation for various health institutions. This is used to measure the dedication given by various health care organizations when HIV/AIDS is a major concern. HIV/AIDS POPULATION

HIV/AIDS Population

A community is made up of different types of people that contributes to the total
population. Various individuals in the community reacts differently towards external stimuli, for
example diseases. Some of the people are able to adapt against this diseases due to the fact that
their bodies are well founded to fight against different varieties of disease causing organisms
while others are vulnerable and are unable to survive and they end up being disabled or dead.
Therefore, program and services need to be implemented to protect the vulnerable population. In
our community the vulnerable population is the HIV/AIDS patients. The patients are widely
exposed to the chances of being attacked by other diseases. This infection leads to the destruction
of the disease fighting organisms, causing the reduction of the body’s immunity. Thereafter, the
patients are exposed to the dangers of being infected by other dangerous diseases, for example,
tuberculosis leading to high mortality rates in the community. The fact that the care and
protection of this patients is expensive, a large population of the community is unable to raise
funds for provision of the patient’s care, for example, medical checkups and feed of a balanced
diet. Therefore, this calls for a need to have a program in the community to take care of this
particular patients.
The HIV patients requires a wide range of health services. These health services include;
regular medical checkups, medical prescriptions, immunity boost injections, balanced diet
description and treatment of any extra detected diseases. The higher the level of effective health
services the higher the patient’s health security. The patients requires regular medical checkups,
this helps the physician to advise the patients about any detected problem and how the solution
will be offered, for example, if the patients are detected that they have a high blood pressure then
measures of lowering the blood pressure to normality will be prescribed. Medical prescriptions

involves advises offered by the physician towards medicinal consumption, for example, if the
patient is affected by the tablets that are rich in iron then alternative related tablets will be
insisted by the professionals. The immunity boosting injections are particularly founded by one
principle, that is, to increase the immunity of the patient at a given level of protection.
Additionally, the balanced diet is of great remedy as it helps in protection against some diseases,
boosting of the body’s immunity, supplying the body with energy to perform various processes,
for example, digestion, excretion and reproduction.
The statistical data about the HIV patients can be entirely be extracted from different
levels, that is, the county level, state level and the related organization level. At the county level
the statistical data about the patients is provided by the county health department, which exhibits
that one person in a group of 10 people is infected by the HIV virus that leads total of 2% of the
total county population. The state level statistical data is analyzed and provided by the state
health department, which describes that in a group of twenty people at least two persons are
infected by the virus registering a total of 10% of the total population. The statistical data at the
organization level is produced by the organizations that deals with the HIV patients, which
clearly illustrates that at least 9.245% of the total state population is infected by the HIV virus.
