Referring to the UNICEF video and the article by WHO about birthing services in rural Peru, answer the following questions (consider rural Peru as a case study). What are some of the barriers to good birthing outcomes and newborn care? Conversely what are some some promising interventions to birthing services and newborn care? By the way, my interest in global health began when I was an exchange student in Peru and saw a newborn with tetanus whose umbilical cord had been cut with a rock. I was both horrified and moved to commit myself to do something about these conditions. If you have had similar experiences that led you to serving the poor population, feel free to share.
