In your opinion, how much emphasis should be placed on promoting health versus curing diseases in old age? What are the benefits AND consequences of emphasizing one over the other? Think both of benefits and consequences at the individual level as well as at the societal level. Refer to the reading assignments for support for your answer. What if prevention/curing disease succeeded in significantly prolonging the human life span? (or life expectancy?) Disease prevention and health promotion are being emphasized in geriatric
medicine. However, more emphasis should be on health promotion instead of curing
diseases. At the old age, most people have terminal conditions which cannot be cured.
Investing in trying to cure illnesses in old age would be too expensive and time wasting.
