The Mughal empire ruled for more than two centuries governing between the 16th to

mid-18th century. The empire was founded by Babur who was a descendant of Mongol warrior
Tamerlane (“PBS” 2002, under Muslim Conquest). The Mughals were Muslim rulers who
imposed their rule on the Hindu majority. The empire’s legacy was driven by six great emperors
namely, Babur (1526-1530), Humayun (1530-1540 and 1555-1556), Akbar (1556-1605),
Jahangir (1605-1627), Shah Jahan (1628-1658), and Aurangzeb (1658-1707)

Mughal emperors broke down the empire as most were puppets of the British colonialists. Being
foreigners and Muslims, building such an empire was not an easy task. Though most Mughal
rulers are seen as great leaders, they used different ruling styles which yielded to various
challenges in excising their rule upon the Hindu majority.
. In the early stages of the Mughal empire, the emperors had a hard time consolidating
support from the Hindu Majority. Unlike his predecessors who had been opposed to other
Hinduism, Babur allowed it. New Hindu temples were also allowed to be built but only with the
permission of the Emperor. This multi-religion culture was meant to reduce the Islam-Hindu
conflicts that had been there for centuries and made it easy to rule over the Hindu majority [2]. In
