Description

Assignment: Academic Success and Professional Development Plan
Part 6: Finalizing the Plan

At some point in every construction project, efforts turn from design and the focus moves to actual construction. With the vision in place and the tools secured, the blueprint can be finalized and approved. Then it is time to put on hardhats and begin work.

Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have put a great deal of thought into your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.

Much as builders remain cognizant of the building standards as they plan and begin construction, nurses must remain mindful of the formal standards of practice that govern their specialty. A good understanding of these standards can help ensure that your success plan includes any steps necessary to excel within your chosen specialty.

In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the final component: a review of your specialty standards of practice. You will also submit your final version of the document, including Parts 1–5.

To Prepare:

  • Review the standards of practice related to your chosen specialty.
  • Examine professional organizations related to the specialization you have chosen and identify at least one to focus on for this assignment.
  • Reflect on the thoughts you shared in the Discussion forum regarding your choice of a specialty, any challenges you have encountered in making this choice, and any feedback you have received from colleagues in the Discussion.

The Assignment:
Complete the following items and incorporate them into the final version of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan.

  • Write a 2- to 3-paragraph justification statement identifying your reasons for choosing your MSN specialization. Incorporate feedback you received from colleagues in this week’s Discussion Forum.
  • Identify the professional organization related to the specialization you have chosen to focus on for this assignment and explain how you can become an active member of this organization.
Note: Your final version of the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan should include all components as presented the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan template.

Reasons for Choosing Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) As a
Preferred Specialization
Women face far more intricate and dangerous physical, physiological, emotional
and overall mental complexities than men. Although this fact may seem stereotypical at its best,
it is a fact that women need more specialized care as compared to men. One in every five women
faces sexual assault at least once in their lives in the US, as compared to one in 71 for men ("Get
Statistics", 2019). As such, women are in great need of medical support, in terms of response to
sexual assault, and how to respond to the same. Further, chronic, acute, and preventative care is
needed for women in terms of gynecology, pregnancy, contraception, STIs, contraception,
mental health among other pertinent issues facing women (Wysocki, 2014) in America.
Apart from the complexities of women’s physiology and anatomy, another factor
that validates this specialization is the lack of enough professionals to offer the level of
professional nursing assistance required. America has 166 million women, out of which 33.2
million (1 in 5) will likely experience sexual assault at least once in their lives. In contrast, there
are only around 5,670 WHNPs in America today, 2.1% ("NP Fact Sheet", 2019) of the 270,000
nurses in America. There is a large disparity between the available nursing care for women and
the level of care needed.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital: A Professional Organization in Women’s
Health
The hospital is the second largest teaching affiliate in America, adjacent to
Harvard Medical School. It is one of the largest hospitals in Boston and houses the second
largest health research program in the world, located in a hospital ("Boston Hospital & Medical
Center - Brigham and Women's Hospital", 2019). The hospital has accomplished numerous

milestones in healthcare, including the first solid organ transplant. Such an environment of
combined teaching and learning is ideal for furthering both academic and professional ambitions.
Active teaching of nursing students, combined with a simultaneous professional relationship with
the best women nursing practitioners in the world would be a great opportunity to further both
academic and professional ambitions.

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success

Irobi has already achieved academically in the field of public health and still has a desire
to continue with gaining further knowledge in the field. We share the same passion of
wanting to gain a vast knowledge of helping people in society and I think he can be a
great asset in my team in terms of offering knowledge in public health and combining it
with nursing knowledge can provide a great academic achievement
Notes:
Irobi will be responsible for providing details and clarifications regarding public health.
He will help me in creating a connection and familiarizer me how the filed works. Irobi

nursing in Illinois involves her,and it is something that people with doctorates and
masters in Rn or nursing have tried to achieve without success. Therefore, the self-drive
and secrets of striving can be a vital tool to help me in making me realize dreams that
seem impossible.
Notes:
Distance might be a problem since we are in different locations. However, thanks to the
power of social media and online interactions with meetings once a month is good
